A 5V DC input is applied, and through the combination of an inductor L1 (1H), diode D1, switching transistor Q2, and capacitor C1 (10µF), the circuit steps up the voltage to approximately 12V at the output. The input is 5 V, and through the switching action of a transistor (driven at 1 kHz), energy is stored in a 100 mH inductor and then released through a diode into a 10 µF capacitor.
